This was an interesting headline yesterday:
BREAKING: The US Securities and Exchange Commission is preparing a proposal to eliminate the requirement to report earnings quarterly and instead give companies the option to share results twice a year.
The proposal is expected to be published as soon as next month.
The current quarterly system has been in use for over 50 years. They have looked at making it monthly reports from time to time but ultimately decided that would be decided that monthly reporting would be too burdensome and potentially counterproductive. Which is understandable, especially if looking into it 20 years ago or even 10. Given the ever evolving technology, I always thought the SEC would strive for more transparency not less.
